HOUSTON — The entire Rice University family mourns the passing of former men's basketball letterwinner Andy Gilchrist.
Gilchrist was a four-year letterwinner from 1985-89. In his career, he averaged 9.5 points and 5.2 rebounds while connecting on 51.5% from the field, the 10th highest career field goal percentage in Rice history. He's also one of 28 players in school history to finish with over 500 career rebounds.
He's one of three players in school history to lead the team in field goal percentage three straight years. As a sophomore, he led the team with 7.0 rebounds. His senior season saw him lead the team with 12.9 points while grabbing 5.0 rebounds and connecting on a team-best 59.3% from the field. His performance helped him earn the 1989 Billy Wohn Award, given to the top male athlete at Rice that year.
