HOUSTON — Rice men's basketball coach Scott Pera has announced Wednesday afternoon the signing of transfer Noah Shelby to a grant-in-aid for the 2023-24 school year.
"We are thrilled to welcome Noah to our program," said Pera. Noah is a dynamic playmaking point guard whose abilities fit our system perfectly. He is a terrific shooter with the ability to score at all three levels. Most importantly, he fits our locker room and team culture. Noah is all about winning and moving this program forward as we enter the American Athletic Conference."
Shelby, a 6-3 guard, comes to South Main after spending last year at Vanderbilt. Last season, Shelby saw action in 14 games, averaging 3.7 points. He twice scored a season-high 12 points, against Southern Miss, where he made a season-high four three-pointers, and Tennessee (three, threes).
A native of McKinney, Texas, he prepped at the Greenhill School, averaging 22.7 points per game as a senior, earning All-Southwest Preparatory Conference honors. As a junior, he averaged 31.1 points per game. He was named Second Team All-Area in 2021. A 2022 McDonald's All-American Game nominee, he was a four-star recruit by ESPN, 247Sports and Rivals. We was the nation's 14th-ranked point guard by Rivals, 17th by 247Sports and 23rd by ESPN. He was also the No. 82 overall recruit by Rivals and No. 99 by 247Sports.
Shelby joins guard Anthony Selden (Boston, Mass./Gardner-Webb) and forwards Sam Alajiki (Dundalk, Ireland/California), Keanu Dawes (Stratford, Texas) and Gabe Warren (Plano, Texas) in the 2023-24 recruiting class, giving Rice the No. 50 class overall by 247 sports.
