HOUSTON — Rice men's basketball coach Scott Pera has announced Wednesday afternoon the signing of graduate transfer Anthony Selden to a grant-in-aid for the 2023-24 school year.
"Today we are happy to add Anthony Selden to our program," said Pera. "Anthony is a proven college player that brings a toughness and defensive mentality that we were looking for in a transfer. He can guard multiple positions and play multiple positions on offense. His versatility, toughness and leadership will be a great addition to our locker room".
Selden, a 6-6 guard, comes to South Main after spending the last three years at Gardner-Webb. Last season, he was second on the team with 11.5 points per game, which was 17th in the Big South Conference. He was also third on the team with 4.4 rebounds while connecting on 48.3% from the field. He scored double-figures 20 times, including a career-high 21 at then No. 1 North Carolina.
In his 87 career games at Gardner-Webb, he averaged 8.2 points and 3.9 rebounds while connecting on 44.2% from the field and 31.9% from three.
Selden joins forwards Sam Alajiki (Dundalk, Ireland/California), Keanu Dawes (Stratford, Texas) and Gabe Warren (Plano, Texas) in the 2023-24 recruiting class, giving Rice the No. 50 class overall by 247 sports.
