Win 6-1 on Wednesday night
Reckling Park: J.D. McCracken worked a career-best 5.1 innings and struck out five, but a five-batter sequence in the second inning proved to be too much to overcome as Texas A&M downed Rice 6-1 on Wednesday night.
The Details: Making his first start since the opening weekend of the season, McCracken cruised through the first and retired 13 of his last 14 batters, but the Aggies tagged him for four runs (three earned) as the first five hitters in the second reached on four singles and a hit batter. McCracken had never worked more than 2.2 innings in his career or struck out more than two in eight previous collegiate outings. Aggies starter Justin Lamkin and reliever Brandyn Garcia held the Owls scoreless until the seventh when a ground out by Pierce Gallo brought home Max Johnson.
