TCU Blanks Rice to Close Shriners Children's College Classic
3/5/2023 5:59:00 PM | Baseball
Rice hosts UTRGV on Tuesday to open five-game homestand.
Minute Maid Park: Christian Salazar collected a pair of hits for the second straight game, but Rice was shut out for the first time in 2023, dropping a 7-0 decision to TCU in the final game for both teams in the Shriners Children's College Classic on Sunday.
The Details: Tom Vincent opened the game for the Owls and worked his way out of a first-inning threat. He allowed a leadoff double, but stranded the runner at third after getting cleanup hitter Karson Bowen to fly out to center on the 12th pitch of his at-bat. He was tagged for a three-run homer in the second and exited with one out in the third to take the loss. Rice collected a pair of hits in the first but a double play kept the Owls off the board. They were held hitless until the fifth when Salazar lined a pitch into the leftfield corner for his first career double. Max Johnson followed with a grounder to first that was mishandled but Salazar was thrown out at the plate attempting to score. Salazar added a second double, leading off the seventh, but could not score.
