In Brief: The 48th-ranked Rice Owls continue their run of matches against ranked opponents this weekend by hosting #64 South Florida and #36 FIU at the George R. Brown Tennis Center this weekend. The Owls and Panthers will meet at 11 a.m. on Friday, and the Owls and Panthers at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The Owls: Rice is 9-5 so far this season, 7-2 at GRBTC, and 4-0 in Conference USA. They moved into the ITA top 50 this week at No. 48.
USF: The Bulls are 10-5 this season and are ranked 61st after a six-match winning streak. Their last loss this year came to Louisiana Tech (4-2). Rice has a 7-3 lead in the all-time series thanks to wins in the last seven matches, including both previous matches at GRBTC. Rice won 4-2 last year in Tampa.
FIU: The Panthers are 13-3 this year and ranked 36th in the latest poll. They have won nine straight matches since falling to #7 Texas A&M on February 24. Rice leads the series 5-4, but FIU has won the last three, including a 4-3 loss last year. The Owls are 2-0 vs. FIU in Houston, winning 4-1 at Jake Hess in 2015 and 4-0 in 2019 in a match that began at GRBTC for Senior Day but was completed at Sweetwater Country Club in Sugarland. The schools met three consecutive years to decide the C-USA Championship match with Rice winning in 2016 & 2017 and FIU in 2018.
George R. Brown Tennis Center: Rice has posted a 71-17 regular-season record at GRBTC (13-0 in C-USA play) since making their debut at their new home by defeating Lamar 7-0 on 1/17/15.
