Mekhi Mason Named C-USA Freshman of the Week

HOUSTON — For the third time this season, men's basketball guard Mekhi Mason was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
He's becomes the first Owl to win the award three times in a season since Marcus Evans in 2015-16.
Mason began the week scoring 12 points as Rice rallied from a 24-point deficit to take the lead at Louisiana Tech. He also grabbed four rebounds and had a team-high four assists. He followed that by scoring a team-high 17 points while grabbing five rebounds against North Texas.
Mason averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists while connecting on 57.1% from the field, 66.7% from three and 75.0% from the free throw line.
Rice will head to Florida for a pair of games beginning next Thursday, Feb. 9, when it travels to Boca Raton to face league-leader, No. 19 Florida Atlantic. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed at ESPN+.
