The Details: The Ragin' Cajuns scored a pair in the first and added four in the second to take command early in the game and extended the lead to 11-0 before the Owls plated runs in the sixth and ninth innings. Connor Walsh lined a double off the wall in right with one out in the sixth and on a single to right by Jack Riedel. Freshman Paul Smith, who walked four times in his Rice debut, picked up his first career RBI in the ninth, driving in Guy Garibay Jr. with a ground out. Former catcher Justin Long took the loss in his starting debut on the mound.
Notable:
- The win was the 11th straight by Louisiana in the series with Rice.
- Smith's four walks were the most by an Owl since teammate Aaron Smigelski received four free passes vs. UTSA on April 17 last season.
- Transfers Mauricio Rodriguez and Tyler Hamilton made their Rice debuts in relief as did freshman Ryland Urbanczyk. Urbanczyk and Hamilton combined to hold Louisiana scoreless over the last three innings.
- Freshman outfielder Christian Salazar made his debut as a defensive replacement.
