Owls close out road trip vs. San Diego State on Saturday
San Diego, California: Rice won three deciding tiebreakers in singles, but it was not enough to overcome a fast start by UCLA as the Bruins downed the Owls 4-3 on Friday.
Doubles: UCLA burst out of the gates and swept to the first point of the day with 6-2 wins at the first two lines.
Singles: The Bruins carried their momentum into singles, winning five of six first sets in singles and stormed to three straight-set wins to clinch the match, before the Owls rallied to capture the final three points of the match. Sydney Berlin bounced back from a 6-2 loss in her first set to post the Owls first point in four meetings against UCLA with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 win at the fourth line. Diae El Jardi, who was the only Owl to win her opening set, added a second point with a 6-4, 3-6,10-8 win at the third line. Federica Trevisan closed out the match with a 5-7, 6-2, 10-8 win over UCLA's Kimmi Hance who is currently ranked 82nd in the country.
Elizabeth Schmidt: " It was good to get those 3 hard fought singles wins but to be able to get the team wins in a match like this there are some areas we need to continue improve on as a unit and I am confident we will. Tomorrow is another great opportunity to get out and go to battle together."
Up Next: The Owls close out their road trip when they face San Diego State at noon Saturday at the Aztec Tennis Center.
