Owls Take Seventh at NCAA South Central Regional

FAYETTEVILLE - The Rice men's cross country team had a strong showing in the team's 2023 finale Friday at the NCAA South Central Regional in Fayetteville, Ark. The Owls finished seventh out of 29 teams with two athletes finishing in the top 30.
Freshman Gus Gannon led the way for Rice, finishing 25th with a time of 30:27.4 for the 10k race, while Travis Dowd was right behind in 29th with a time of 30:38.2.
Ben Tijerina and Grant Samara finished a mere second apart from each other, finishing 43rd and 45th, respectively, while Elliot Metcalf rounded out the Rice scorers in 51st.
Texas won the regional, with Arkansas finishing second. Arkansas' Patrick Kiprop won the race with a time of 28:38.8.
