Postgame Reaction - Head Coach Lindsay Edmonds
"Winning's hard and winning in conference play is hard. We had a really long week being in Tennessee on Wednesday and then going to El Paso Saturday and turnaround here [tonight] playing. I thought we had a slow start but we found a way. We won the second and third quarters, which put us in position to have a few slip ups in the fourth and we were still able to finish the game out."
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
Fisher opened the game with a layup before the two sides traded baskets until a Roadrunner three put UTSA up 10-5 early. Austin and Crosthwait countered each UTSA basket, but the Roadrunners went up 20-12 at the end of the first.
Second Quarter
UTSA ballooned the lead to 11 at 26-15 with 7:42 left in the half, but Ennis and Bellamy quickly cut the deficit down to seven. The Roadrunners were able to get the lead back to 11, but Fisher kickstarted a 9-0 lead capped off by an Ennis three to get Rice within two at 35-33. Crosthwait gave Rice the lead with a three, but UTSA responded in the closing seconds to take a 39-38 lead at halftime.
Third Quarter
Crosthwait got Rice started in the third with a three, handing the lead back to Rice. Fisher and Crosthwait extended the lead to six before UTSA got on the board. After a Fisher three got the Owl lead up to seven, six-straight points for UTSA got the Roadrunners within one. Jackson drilled a three followed by another Crosthwait three to swing momentum back to Rice. The Owls led 57-52 at the end of the third.
