Metcalf Selected C-USA Athlete of the Week

Won individual title at Cowboy Stampede
DALLAS - Rice sophomore Elliot Metcalf was named the Conference USA Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Metcalf took home the McNeese Cowboy Stampede individual title for the Owls with a finish of 19:30.86 to help the Owls also secure the team title. In the four-mile race, Metcalf won by nearly 10 full seconds just a couple weeks removed from placing third at the season-opening Rice Invitational. The first place finish was the first of Metcalf's career, as is the C-USA weekly honor.
As a team the Owls scored 29 points, comfortably defeating both second place McNeese (48 points) and third place Houston Baptist (69 points).
The Rice men are ranked No. 8 in the most recent USTFCCCA South Central Region Poll. The Owls will next gear up for the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invitational, which will take place Saturday, Oct. 15 at 9 a.m. in College Station.
