
Dowd Named C-USA Male Athlete of the Week

Won first career cross country race
DALLAS – Rice junior Travis Dowd was named the Conference USA Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week on Monday, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Dowd helped lead the Owls to a team victory at the season-opening Rice Invitational last Friday by winning the overall individual title with a time of 19:57 in the four mile race, winning the 85-runner field by two seconds. Dowd ran at a 4:59/mile pace to record his first-ever top-10 finish.
As a team the Owls scored 44 points, comfortably defeating both second place Houston (67 points) and third place Sam Houston (76 points).
The Rice men climbed from No. 12 to No. 8 in the most recent USTFCCCA South Central Region Poll. The Owls will next gear up for the McNeese Cowboy Stampede, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 24 at 9 a.m. in Lake Charles, La.
