
Twelve Owls Recognized for USTFCCCA All-Academic

NEW ORLEANS – The Rice Owls men's and women's track & field teams combined to qualify 12 student-athletes for the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic teams, an award that honors those who excel both in meets and in the classroom, the organization announced Wednesday.
In addition to the individual accomplishments, both of the Rice men's and women's team were recognized for Team Academic Awards. Under head coach Jim Bevan the Rice women posted a 3.566 GPA while the men's team under head coach Jon Warren achieved a 3.424 GPA.
In order to qualify for team recognition a program must finish with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
This year's Rice individual honorees included Alyssa Balandran (Psychology), Grace Forbes (Sports Medicine & Exercise Phys), Erna Gunnarsdottir (Kinesiology), Eliza Kraule (Computer Science), Tara Simpson-Sullivan (Psychology) and Josie Taylor (Undecided) on the women's side.
The Rice men receiving recognition are Andrew Abikhaled (BioScience and Health Policy), Ese Amata (Sport Management), Grant Levesque (Sport Management), James McNaney (Electrical Engineering), Alex Slinkman (Visual and Dramatic Arts) and Samuel Woodley (German Studies).
