
Slinkman, McNaney Conclude Season at NCAA Championships

EUGENE, OR - The Rice Owls men's track and field team concluded their 2022 outdoor season with a pair of competitors on day one of the NCAA Championships Wednesday evening at the prestigious Hayward Field.
Competing in his first career NCAA Championships, sophomore vaulter Alex Slinkman finished tied for 18th overall by matching a season-best clearance of 5.30m (17-4.50). The Mechanicsville, Va. native, who won the C-USA outdoor pole vault title, recovered from a pair of no heights on his first two attempts with a clearance on his final try of 5.30m. Slinkman was unable to advance at 5.40m.
Senior javelin thrower James McNaney closed out his stellar Rice career with his second straight appearance on the national stage, placing 23rd with a throw of 64.60m (211-11) on his final attempt. The Longview, Texas native, who was the C-USA outdoor champion, bested his mark of 63.96m at last season's NCAA Championships.
