HOUSTON — Rice men's basketball coach Scott Pera announced Tuesday morning the signing of transfer Alem Huseinovic to a grant-in-aid for the 2022-23 school year.
"I am excited to announce the signing of Alem H Huseinovic," said Pera. "He is the final piece to our spring recruiting efforts. Alem is a strong combo guard that will fit our style and culture perfectly. He is a terrific shooter and tough defender that will be a great addition to our team. Alem will be able to play multiple positions and add more versatility to our team. He is an outstanding student and young man that will add to our strong core to continue to help this program move forward"
Huseinovic, a 6-4 guard, comes to South Main after spending the last two years at Nevada. In two seasons with the Wolfpack, Huseinovic scored 67 points and grabbed 31 rebounds, playing 8.0 minutes per game in 43 games. Against George Mason last year, he came off the bench to score a career high eight points on 4-of-6 shooting while pulling down three rebounds.
A native of Bosnia & Herzegovina, Huseinovic played his senior year at PHHoenix Prep in Arizona, averaging 14.5 points, 3.4 assists, and 3.3 rebounds while connecting on 43% from three and 91% from the free throw line. As a junior at Chaparral High School, he averaged 14.2 points, helping it to the 6A Arizona state championship.
Huseinovic has played internationally for Bosnia & Herzegovina, helping it to a silver medal at the FIBA U16 European Championships. He was also named an All-Star 5 and was selected as the Most Outstanding Player.
