Owls host Senior Day next Saturday
Tampa, FL FIU spotted Rice a 3-0 lead and then stormed back to down the Owls 4-3 in Tampa on Saturday morning.
Doubles: Rice took the early lead when Maria Budin and Diae El Jardi clinched their second consecutive doubles point with a win in a tiebreaker. Anastasia Smirnova and Allison Zipoli staked the Owls to the early advantage with a 6-3 win at the second line and the Owls 25th ranked tandem seized the first point with by taking the tiebreak over the Panthers' Andjela Skrobonja and Kamila Umarova.
Singles: The teams split the first sets of singles and Budin and Anna Bowtell swiftly closed out their matches to give Rice a 3-0 lead. But FIU held its early advantage on the three courts where the Panthers took first sets and then used a tiebreak win in the second set to secure the clinching point at the sixth line.
Of Note: Bowtell's win was the 91st of her career (91-31), moving her one win from tying Blair DiSesa (92-59) for ninth on the Owls' career wins list.
