DALLAS - For a second time in 14 days, Rice sophomore vaulter Alex Slinkman was named the Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday (4/12).
The reigning Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Week from April 5 continued his momentum by placing second overall in the pole vault with a season-best clearance of 5.27m (17-3.50) at the Texas A&M 44 Farms Invitational last weekend, succeeding on his final attempt. Slinkman's mark ranks first in C-USA, 13th in the NCAA West region, and 26th in the NCAA overall.
The native of Mechanicsville, Va., becomes the first Rice male athlete to win consecutive C-USA Athlete of the Week awards during the outdoor season since Rice joined the conference in 2005.
Slinkman will be among a group of nine Owls competing at this weekend's Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
