Owls Pick Up Three Wins at Victor Lopez Classic

HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's track and field team closed out the 39th annual Victor Lopez Classic by earning four victories Saturday at the Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field.
Three of the Owls four wins came in the field events, highlighted by sophomore Ese Amata setting a season-best mark of 2.06m to claim first in the high jump. Elian Ahmar led a small contingent in the shot put with a winning throw of 17.26m while Corbett Fong recorded the top collegiate mark (57.80m) in the javelin.
Senior distance runner Alex Topini capped the meet with a victory in the 1500m, finishing just shy of a personal best mark with a time of 3:49.23.
