Bugg, Topini Record Victories at UH Spring Break

HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's track & field team made the most of their small contingent at Thursday's University of Houston Spring Break Invitational, winning a pair of events and placing four athletes in the top-three in the outdoor season opener.
Senior distance runner Alex Topini picked up a victory in the 800m, setting a personal best time of 1:53.50 while fellow senior Jason Bugg won the 1500m with a finish of 4:01.80.
Sophomore Alex Slinkman made his 2022 debut by placing third in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.06m and was the lone Owl to compete in the field events. Freshman Davis Thames also placed third with a time of 1:55.22 in the 800m.
The Owls will also be in competition at this weekend's UTSA Invitational, with 14 athletes competing across Friday and Saturday.
