HOUSTON – Rice women's basketball assistant coach Lakevia Boykin was named one of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Thirty Under 30 honorees, the WBCA announced on Monday (3/13).
Boykin, who also serves as Rice's recruiting coordinator, is in her first year on head coach Lindsay Edmond's staff after spending the previous four seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Davidson.
"I cannot say enough good things about Lakevia and who she is as a coach, both on and off the court," said Edmonds. "I am so lucky to have her on my staff, our players are so lucky to have her in their corner, and our game needs more coaches like her. She definitely deserves to be recognized for all that she does."
In her first year with the Owls, the team improved vastly as the season progressed by winning 10 of their final 15 games, as well as an 8-4 mark in Conference USA in the team's final 12 league games.
Prior to Davidson, Boykin was video coordinator for the Wake Forest women's basketball program, where she was also a four-year letterwinner for the Demon Deacons from 2009-13. As a student-athlete, Boykin played in 130 games and set the school record for most career games played. She finished her career with 1,309 points, which ranked 11th in program history.
The WBCA Thirty Under 30 program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches aged 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement.
The Owls finished the 2021-22 season with a 14-13 record and an 8-9 mark in C-USA, advancing to the quarterfinals of the C-USA Championship tournament.
