
Rice to Face Ohio in First Round of CBI

HOUSTON — Rice earned the 14th-seed in the Roman College Basketball Invitational and will face third-seed Ohio in the first round this Saturday, Mar. 19 at 6:30 p.m. CT, the organization announced Sunday night. The tournament will take place in Daytona Beach, Fla., at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center.
The game will be streamed by FloHoops.
The Owls enter the CBI with a 16-16 record. Rice will be making its 13th postseason appearance and second appearance in the CBI. Rice also participated in the CBI in 2017, advancing to the quarterfinals.
Ohio finished the season with a 24-9 record. It tied for third-place in the Mid-American Conference with a 14-6 record.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the Owls and Bobcats.
The 14th Roman College Basketball Invitational returns to the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach featuring a new format. Prior to 2021, the CBI consisted of a 16-team field with games played on campus sites. Once the tournament was down to two teams, a best-of-three series was played, moving between the two home campuses, to determine the champion. The 2020 CBI was canceled due to the pandemic but returned in 2021 with eight teams playing a single-elimination tournament in Daytona Beach, with was won by Pepperdine with an 84-61 decision over Coastal Carolina. This year, the CBI is back at the Ocean Center, the field returns to 16 teams, seeded 1-16 for the first time, and it will retain the single-elimination format introduced last year.
