Averaged a double-double in a pair of Rice victories
DALLAS – Rice forward Malia Fisher was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week for the second time this month and the third time this season, the league office announced on Monday (2/21) afternoon.
The Dacula, Ga. native averaged a double-double (11 points/10.5 rebounds) last weekend while helping guide the Owls to consecutive C-USA victories for the first time this season.
In Saturday's win over FIU, Fisher notched her team-leading sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 18 rebounds, the most boards by a C-USA player this season during league action. In that same game Fisher went 11-of-13 from the free throw line, including a stellar 8-of-8 clip in the fourth quarter.
Fisher added five points, three rebounds, two steals, two assists and a block in the team's victory over UAB last Thursday.
Fisher's six double-doubles are tied for the fourth-most in C-USA this season. Her three C-USA Freshman of the Week honors are the second-most in the league this season.
The Owls (9-11, 4-8) will be looking for their third straight win tonight at 5 p.m. at UAB on CUSAtv.
