HOUSTON — Rice men's basketball coach Scott Pera has announced Wednesday morning the signing of Keanu Dawes (Stratford, Texas) to a national letter of intent for the 2023-24 school year.
Dawes, a 6-9 forward, played for Brett Nixion at Stratford High School where he helped it to a 27-6 record and district championship. In his career, he's averaged 15.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. A consensus four-star player, he's the No. 9 ranked player in Texas and No. 23 ranked power forward in the country. He was named All-District 17 and All-Region by the Houston Chronicle and was a finalist for the Guy V. Lewis Award, given to the Greater Houston Area Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
"Today is truly special day for our Rice basketball program and all of our fans," said Pera. "Keanu joining us as we enter a new chapter in our program's history next year by joining the AAC is perfect timing. He is a nationally rated recruit but also a local kid that fits our culture perfectly. He brings a skill set that will amplify how we want to play and his versatility is exciting. He has all the character traits that we look for when recruiting future Owls. He cares first and foremost about winning and he will help us immediately as we join the new league. Everyone please join me in welcoming Keanu to our family."
