Home Is The Place To Be
Rice opens a six-game homestand spanning the entire month of December starting on Friday, Dec. 2 against TCU and the stretch will conclude on Dec. 31 against UTEP.
A Historic Start
For the first time in program history, Rice started the season at a perfect 6-0 following a 66-58 win in College Station against Texas A&M. Ashlee Austin led the way with 16 points while adding three rebounds, three assists and a steal. India Bellamy finished with 11 points while Katelyn Crosthwait added another nine points, including two huge three-pointers in the fourth quarter to fuel Rice to the victory. Rice snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Aggies in last Sunday's win.
Rice vs. TCU
The Owls lead the all-time series with TCU 29-20 with Rice winning the most recent game 82-74 on Dec. 6, 2007. The Owls are 16-5 at home against the Horned Frogs.
The Lone Star
Rice has 10 opponents on the schedule from the state of Texas, with seven of those being non-conference matchups. Rice currently sits at 4-0 against schools from the lone star state with 10 matchups remaining (will play UTEP, UTSA and North Texas twice due to them being conference games).
Austin Tabbed for Preseason Honors, Owls Picked Fourth
Senior forward Ashlee Austin was named to the Conference USA Women's Basketball Preseason All-Conference Team while league coaches picked the Owls to finish fourth in the conference race. Austin earned second-team, all-conference honors as a junior after a season in which she was the only player in C-USA to rank in the top 13 in points per game, field goal percentage, free throws made, and free throw percentage. She ranked fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (46.3) and fifth in scoring with 16.5 points per game as well as free throws made (122). She established career bests in nearly every statistical category and scored in double figures in 22 of 27 games, highlighted by a pair of 30-point efforts (Sam Houston & Charlotte).
