Houston, TX – The Rice women's basketball team was in cruise control from the opening jump, taking the lead wire-to-wire in the team's 68-58 win over TCU Friday night at Tudor Fieldhouse. The win keeps Rice's perfect start in tact at 7-0, the best start in program history, and also marks back-to-back Power-5 wins after also defeating Texas A&M on the road last week.
The Owls shot 22-of-44 (50%) and a blistering 7-of-15 (46.7%) from three-point range while sinking 17-of-19 free throws (89.5%). Ashlee Austin led Rice with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting while adding three rebounds and two steals. Katelyn Crosthwait shot 5-of-10, including 4-of-8 from downtown for a 14-point display, adding six rebounds and an assist and steal.
Destiny Jackson rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points, going 8-of-9 from the free throw line, while adding seven rebounds and six assists.
Postgame Reaction - Head Coach Lindsay Edmonds
"I am so proud of this group. To do what we did last week against Texas A&M and to come in this week and take care of the home court against another Power-5 program in TCU, I'm just so proud of the girls. They were focused all week and had unbelievable preparation and we were really locked in. We knew the task at hand what taking care of home court no matter who we were playing and they took care of that. We had another balanced attack with three in double figures. Everything didn't go right but man they fought and they showed how resilient they are."
