Owls Begin Indoor Campaign at Leonard Hilton Memorial

HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's track & field squad sent 10 athletes to Friday's season-opening Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational, highlighted by a 1-2-3 finish by the Owls in the high jump.
Sophomore Ese Amata won the Rice-only high jump event by clearing 2.00m on his final attempt and was followed by teammates Patrick Elizondo (1.85m) and Gus Henry (1.80m).
Junior Evan Marshman also recorded a top-three finish for the Owls by finishing second in the 400m dash with a time of 50.08m.
Rice will send a bigger contingent of athletes to next weekend's FasTrak Collegiate Challenge, which will also be hosted by the University of Houston and take place on Jan. 22.
