Second award this cross country season
DALLAS - Rice sophomore cross country runner Grace Forbes was once again chosen the Conference USA Female Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday (9/28).
Forbes, who won the same award back on Sept. 14, recorded her second individual title of the season last Saturday at the Texas A&M Invitational, winning the 5k race in a time of 16:58.0. The Wallingford, Pa. native blew away the 80-runner field by crossing the finish line 34 seconds faster than the next collegiate competitor.
Forbes ran at a 5:27 pace and improved upon her 10-second lead at the 2k split. The individual victory was the third of her career and the Owls placed second overall as a team.
Forbes and the Owls will be back in action this Friday, Oct. 1 to compete at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa. The Owls are currently ranked No. 5 in the USTFCCCA South Central regional rankings after moving up two spots in the Monday poll.
