Women's Cross Country Places Second at Texas A&M Invitational

Forbes wins individual title
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Rice Owls women's cross country team turned in their second straight second place team finish of the young season Saturday morning at the Texas A&M Invitational. Once again the Owls place all five scorers inside the Top-20.
Sophomore Grace Forbes won her second straight individual title, blowing away the 80-runner 5k field in a time of 16:58.0, 34 seconds faster than the next collegiate finisher. Forbes ran at a 5:27 pace and improved upon her 10-second lead at the 2k split. The victory was the third of her career.
Sophomore Caitlin Wosika recorded her second Top-10 finish of the year by placing seventh (18:00.9) and was followed in the scoring by Lourdes Vivas de Lorenzi (11th-18:24.6), Taigen Hunter-Galvan (14th-18:37.9), and Rachel Shoemaker (16th-18:45.4).
Additionally, Alyssa Balandran (17th-18:56.9) and Haley Allen (18th-18:57.1) also placed in the Top-20.
The Owls will next compete at the Paul Short Run on Oct. 1, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
