Football Names Five Captains for 2021

Campbell, Green, Myers, Schuman, Smith to lead Owls.
The members of the Rice Football team have elected five teammates to serve as team captains for the upcoming season. Quarterback Wiley Green and running back Jordan Myers will represent the offense, defensive end Trey Schuman and safety Naeem Smith will represent the defense and long snapper Campbell Riddle will lead the special teams unit.
Both Myers and Riddle are repeat honorees having been selected by their teammates prior to the 2020 season.
Three of the captains (Green, Myers, Schuman) came to Rice as scholarship recruits out of high school while Smith came to Rice after transferring from Ellsworth Junior College and Riddle originally joined the team as a walk-on. In addition to their leadership on the field, all five have excelled in the classroom, earning nine C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medals. Schuman (MBA) and Myers (Masters of Accounting) will compete this fall while enrolled in post-graduate programs.
The five captains for the Owls will make their first trip to midfield for a coin toss on Saturday when Rice takes on Arkansas at 1:00 p.m. in Fayetteville. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+ and ESPN+.
