Owls open season on Nov. 5 vs. St. Edwards
HOUSTON – Rice women's basketball first year head coach Lindsay Edmonds announced the Owls 2021-22 non-conference schedule on Tuesday (Aug. 31), a slate that includes three teams that participated in postseason play last year.
"We have created a non-conference schedule with a variety of different types of matchups that we hope will prepare us to be playing our best basketball when we reach Conference USA play," Edmonds said.
In their first appearance since hoisting the WNIT Championship trophy back in late March, the Owls will open the season on Nov. 9 when they host St. Edwards before hitting the road for a contest in Lafayette, La. against last year's WNIT participant Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Nov. 13.
The Owls return to Houston for a three-game homestand that features Texas Southern (Nov. 17) in the home opener, followed by NCAA Tournament participant Oklahoma State (Nov. 20) and then Pacific (Nov. 24) the day prior to Thanksgiving.
Rice closes out the non-conference portion of their schedule by playing three of their final five games on the road. The Owls travel to UT-Arlington on Dec. 4 before making a stop back home in Houston to host the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Dec. 11.
Rice will then conclude their non-conference road slate with games at Sam Houston (Dec. 16) and last year's Sweet 16 participant Texas A&M (Dec. 19). The matchup against the Aggies will mark the fourth straight season the two teams have played each other. The Owls final non-conference tilt will be Dec. 29 at home against Texas College.
