Honorees Announced for 2021 PR Club

HOUSTON – The PR Club has announced its honorees for the 2021 Calendar event to be held on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the R Room. The honorees will be featured in the 2022 Rice University Track Calendar and are the following:
Dr. Ed Red – Class AAA Louisiana state champion in the javelin in 1959 and 1960 and had the then national-best prep throw in 1959…Southwest Conference champion in 1962-64…All American 1962-64…member of the 1964 Olympic Team and his 11th place finish was the best by an American…still holds the No. 1 ranked throw in Rice history in the pre-1986 javelin…Dr. Red was inducted into the Rice Hall of Fame in 1980.
Gabriel Luke – A seven-time All-American, Gabe was SWC Champion in the 400 meters indoor and outdoor ('90-'91)…NCAA Champion in indoor in 1990 and 1991 and outdoor in 1991…he was All-American in indoor 1990-92 in the 400m and in 1992 in the 4x400 relay…All American in outdoor in 1990-91 in the 400m and in 1993 in the 4x400 relay…He was also an Olympic Trials Qualifier ('92)…stills holds the third-fastest Rice University time in the outdoor 400 meters…also holds the fastest 400 meters indoor and second-fastest indoor 200 meters…He was inducted into the Rice Hall of Fame in 2003.
The 1971 team - Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1971 SWC Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
