40th Bayou Bucket Set for 5:30 Kickoff

The 40th battle for the Bayou Bucket between Rice and Houston will kick off at 5:30 on September 11 and televised nationally by CBS Sports Network, which announced its 2021 college football schedule on Wednesday.
The matchup with Houston will serve as the home opener for the Owls, who will kick off the 2021 schedule on the road at Arkansas on September 4. Rice Athletics is moving forward with plans to return to a full fan experience for home games this fall.
The game will mark the 43rd meeting in a series that began at Rice Stadium in 1971. The two schools began competing for the Bayou Bucket trophy in 1974 after it was created by the Touchdown Club of Houston.
This will be the second consecutive meeting between the two schools at Rice Stadium after the cancellation of the 2020 contest due to the pandemic. Houston defeated Rice 45-27 at Rice Stadium in 2018.
Additional information on game times for the Owls will be released next week when Conference USA announces its entire broadcast schedule.
