Take on USF at 10 a.m. Saturday
In Brief: The 28th ranked Rice women's dropped the opening match of a road swing as FIU captured the last three singles matches to take a 4-3 decision. The win was the eight consecutive for the Panthers while Rice dropped to 11-4.
Doubles: Michaela Haet and Federica Trevisan moved quickly to give the Owls an early advantage in doubles with a 6-1 win at the third line, but FIU stormed back to take the point with wins at the first two positions.
Singles: Faced with the task of recording a second win this season after dropping the doubles point, the Owls jumped in front 3-1 as Victoria Smirnova, Maria Budin and Anastasia Smirnova grabbed wins at the second, sixth and fifth lines. FIU followed with straight set wins at one and three, leaving the outcome at the fourth line where the Panthers took the match in three sets after forcing the third set with a tiebreak win.
Up Next: The Owls return to action at the FIU Tennis Courts on Saturday morning when they face USF at 10 a.m. (central).
