HOUSTON — Rice men's basketball coach Scott Pera announced Friday afternoon the signing of graduate transfer Terrance McBride to a grant-in-aid for the 2021-22 school year.
"I am excited to announce that Cornell graduate transfer Terrance McBride has signed to play for us next year," said Pera. "Terrance had to miss this past season due to the pandemic. He will be a terrific addition to our program. He had a productive career at Cornell and brings a combination of skills to the team. More importantly, Terrance fits our culture perfectly and is here to accomplish the same goal that we all are, winning a conference championship."
McBride, a 6-2 guard, comes to South Main after spending the last four years at Cornell where he averaged 7.2 points per game, 2.8 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game through his first three years. His senior season was canceled by the Ivy League due to COVID-19.
As a junior, he was named honorable mention All-Ivy League. The Lynwood, Calif., native averaged 12.7 points, improving his points per game average by almost eight points a game. He also averaged 3.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.0 steals. He started all 27 games, shooting 47.6 percent from the floor, and 77.3 percent from the foul line. He ranked in the top 10 of the Ivy in assist-to-turnover ratio (third – 1.8), assists (seventh - 3.2) and minutes played (eighth – 32.9) while also placing 12th in scoring.
He scored double-digits 20 times, including a career-high 27 against Yale. He pulled down at least five rebounds 10 times, including a career-high eight versus Columbia.
McBride joins Jaden Geron (Fresno, Calif.) and Damion McDowell (Inglewood, Calif.) in the 2021-22 signing class.
