
Hicks Records Victory at UH Spring Break

Amata wins high jump
HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's track & field team sent a handful of athletes to Thursday's UH Spring Break Invitational and came away with a pair of victories.
Thrower Nick Hicks made his outdoor season debut in style, winning the hammer throw with a mark of 61.12m (200-6.00), which currently ranks fifth in the NCAA. In that same event, Shaun Kerry placed second (60.10m/197-2.00) while Samuel Woodley also finished second in the discus with a distance of 52.89m (173-6.00).
Freshman Ese Amata matched his season-best mark of 2.00m (6-6.75) to win the high jump, the first victory of his young collegiate career.
Also competing in San Antonio, Corbett Fong sits in fifth place in the decathlon after five results with 3533 points.
