OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Rice volleyball senior Nicole Lennon has been named a candidate for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award as a top volleyball student-athlete who excels both on and off the court.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
A two-time AVCA All-America honorable mention selectee, Lennon currently ranks second among active players in the NCAA with 1,589 career kills. This season she ranks in the top three in C-USA in kills per set (4.21), total points (212.5), and points per set (5.06).
Lennon, a double major in psychology (3.96 GPA) and economics, holds a 3.74 GPA overall. She has been named to the 2019 C-USA All-Academic Team and is a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. Lennon is very active in volunteer work, assisting with The FORGE for Families and Houston Food Bank and spends time as a Peer Wellbeing Athletic Advisor.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later this month, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2020-21 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in April.
