
Owls Start Final Weekend With Sweep

WICHITA — Rice volleyball secured its 14th straight win with a 3-0 victory over Wichita State on Friday at Charles Koch Arena.
Rice (18-8, 14-1 American) earned its 11th sweep in the past 14 matches, coming from behind to force extra points in the opening set against Wichita State (17-10, 9-6 American).
Taylor Preston posted a double-double with 17 kills and 15 digs. Kaia Mateo added a double-double of her own with 29 assists and 11 digs.
Gaby Mansfield led the defense with 20 digs, while Arissa Smith finished with a team-high five blocks.
How It Happened
First set
Wichita State led until the final two points of the opening frame before a minute-long rally ended with the Owls up 26-25. Rice closed the set on a 6-1 run, with a block from Mateo and Arissa Smith capping the extended rally. Preston led the set with six kills.
Second set
Rice responded strong, taking an early lead and never giving it up. The Owls went on a 5-0 run to go ahead 15-8. Rice held the Shockers to a .102 hitting percentage and took the set 25-20.
Third set
The Owls wrapped up the match with a commanding final set. They took the first two points and held the lead the rest of the way, closing with a 5-0 run to win 25-17. Kellen Dorotik and Preston each had five kills in the set. Rice improved to a .268 hitting percentage while holding Wichita State to .106.

Rice will complete the regular season at North Texas on Sunday at 1 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
