Owls Look to Continue Winning Ways at Marshall
Fresh off a pair of home victories over WKU, the Rice Owls women's basketball team carries an eight-game winning streak into this weekend at Marshall. The Owls returned to action last week after 27 days away from the court due to a combination of COVID protocols and injuries. The Owls enter play this weekend in first place in the C-USA West division while Marshall is tied for fourth place in the East division.
Last Time Out
The Owls used a 12-3 run over the final 3:40 of regulation to defeat the WKU Lady Toppers, 77-74, last Saturday at Tudor Fieldhouse. Rice erased a 71-65 deficit thanks in large part to three made three-pointers from sophomore guard Katelyn Crosthwait during the clutch run, including the game-winner with 21 seconds remaining.
Learning the Opponent
The Thundering Herd will be playing their first game since defeating Old Dominion 73-68 in overtime back on Feb. 6. Marshall and will be playing just their third and fourth games in the past 28 days overall due to postponements. Sophomore Savannah Wheeler leads Marshall in scoring at 18.0 points per game.
Among the Nation's Best
For a sixth straight week Rice is receiving votes (2) in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll and this week jumped up to 13 votes in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll.
Conference Dominance
The Owls have won 43 of their last 45 contests against C-USA opponents dating back to 2018. Rice has won 13 straight in league play, tied for the 6th-longest active conference win streak in the NCAA.
Let It Fly
Entering play this weekend the Owls rank sixth in the NCAA in three-point percentage (39.8%). Five different Owls are shooting 35% or better from beyond the arc, led by Haylee Swayze (45.2).

Defensively the Owls rank 9th in the NCAA in opponents' field goal percentage (34.0) and are surrendering just 57.9 points per game, which ranks 40th in the NCAA.
