Fourth repeat winner in league history
DALLAS – Rice sophomore All-American Grace Forbes added yet another accolade to her historic season on Wednesday, earning the Conference USA Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year award for a second straight season, the league office announced.
Forbes joined former Owl Cali Roper (2014-15), UTEP's Risper Kimaiyo (2009-10), along with Tulane's Hanne Lyngstad (1998-99) as the only runners in league history to win consecutive C-USA Female Athlete of the Year awards.
Forbes, who was also a repeat winner for the USTFCCCA South Central Region Athlete of the Year award, helped the Owls qualify as a team for the NCAA Championships by winning the individual title at the South Central Regional Championship.
The Wallingford, Pa. native won five of seven races this season, including the individual title at the C-USA Championships. She would later place 45th at the NCAA Championships, just missing out on All-American honors.
