
Hayon Captures 200 Fly Title on Final Day of Hansel Invitational

Rice finishes third
In Brief: Arielle Hayon raced to a win in the 200 butterfly to highlight action for Rice on the final day of the Phill Hansel Invitational on Saturday.
The Details: Hayon surged past San Diego State's Wilma Johansson, who posted the top time in the morning preliminaries, in the third 50 to hit the wall first in 1:59.50. She joined Madison Howe and Marta Cano-Minarro as individual event winners at the invitational. Hayon was joined in the A final by Shannon Jelley and Sydney Morgan who finished seventh and eighth. Shannon Campbell opened Saturday's final session by posting person-best 16:39.90 in the 1650 free to finish second, while Amelia Kane was seventh. Marta Cano-Minarro and Madison Howe finished fourth and fifth in the 100 free and Zoe Spitz and Imogen Meers finished seventh and eighth in the Owls other A final action. The action concluded with Becca Evans outracing Houston's Rachel Hicks to the wall to give Rice a third-place finish in 400 free relay. Howe swam the opening leg for the Owls, followed by Lauren McDougall and Cano-Minarro before turning it over to Evans.
