Owls Placed Fifth at South Central Regional

Landa leads the way by finishing 15th
WACO, Texas - The Rice Owls men's cross country team placed four runners in the top 50 individual standings to finish fifth overall as a team at Friday's NCAA South Central Regional, hosted by Baylor.
The Owls scored 201 points, while Texas (35 points), Arkansas (39 points), Arkansas State (166 points), and Lamar (200 points) finished first-fourth, respectively.
Rice was led by senior Hociel Landa's 15th place (31:10) result in the 10k race, earning all-region honors for the second time in his career. Landa ran at a 5:01 mile pace and posted splits of 8:56 (3k), 15:07 (5k), 24:54 (8k), and 28:12 (9k). Fellow senior teammate Alex Topini finished 26th overall (31:48) while Travis Dowd (37th-32:16) and senior Andrew Abikhaled (44th-32:25) also finished in the Top-50. Freshman Davis Thames rounded out the top five for the Owls, placing 93rd (33:39).
