Owls fall in 101st Homecoming
The Details: Jake Constantine, who came on in relief of injured started Wiley Green, threw for 242 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His 12-yard scoring strike to Cedric Patterson III capped an 89-yard drive in the final two minutes to send the game to overtime, only to see North Texas hand the Owls their fourth consecutive loss in overtime, two of them at the hands of the Mean Green at Rice Stadium. North Texas opened the scoring a field goal at the end of a lengthy opening drive that ate up nearly six minutes of the first quarter Rice's hopes to answer on its first possession were marred by an injury to Green when he was sacked and was taken from the field on a medical cart. Constantine led the Owls on a lengthy drive of their own to field goal that ate up most of the second quarter, but North Texas struck back with a late touchdown to take a 10-3 lead at the half. He threw for 210 yards in a second half as the Owls found their offensive footing, but could never wrest the lead away from North Texas. Jake Bailey set career highs with 10 receptions for 143 yards and a touchdown, the most memorable being a 36-yard connection from a scrambling Constantine on fourth and 10 from the Owls' 11-yard line.
Up Next: Rice will wrap up a slate of four consecutive Homecoming games next Saturday when they travel to Charlotte, North Carolina to take on the 49ers at 1:30 p.m. Central.
