Baton Rouge: LSU rode the early momentum from the doubles point to capture its fifth straight win over Rice, 4-0 at the LSU Tennis Complex on Sunday.
Doubles: The Tigers raced to the day's first point, taking 6-1 decisions at the second and third lines. Diae El Jardi and Maria Budin were tied 3-3 at the first line when the point was decided.
Singles: The Owls split the six first sets in singles, but saw each of those extended to a third set by the Tigers to hold the Owls off the scoreboard. Anna Bowtell shook of a loss in her first set to extend her match to the third and held a 5-3 lead with the match was clinched.
Elizabeth Schmidt: "Credit to LSU who came out strong early in the doubles. We bounced back from doubles and came out with a purpose in singles on every court. While we didn't get the W in this match There's a lot to build on from the match and I am pleased with the progress our team continues to make."
Up Next: The Owls return home this week for two matches. They will open the homestand by hosting Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 2 p.m. on Thursday and will welcome Texas Tech to GRBTC on Saturday at 11 a.m.
