
Six Owls Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS - A total of six Rice University student-athletes were recognized as U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honorees, an award that honors those who excel both in meets and in the classroom, the organization announced Thursday.
In addition to the individual accolades, both the Rice men's and women's teams were recognized for Team Academic Awards. Under head coach Jim Bevan, the Rice women posted a 3.61 GPA while the men's squad under head coach Jon Warren earned a 3.46 GPA. All told, 463 teams were honored by the USTFCCCA for their academics. In order to qualify for team recognition a program must finish with at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.
This year's Rice individual honorees included Thomas Pratt and Lucas Ribeiro on the men's side and Grace Forbes, Hannah Jackson, Zinedine Russell, and Tara Simpson-Sullivan for the women.

Qualifications for the USTFCCCA All-Academic honors are as such:
- Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale (not 2019-20 academic year, not semester), including the most recent grading period, certifiable by either NCAA Faculty Rep or NCAA Compliance Coordinator or Registrar's Office. Institutions utilizing a different GPA scale must convert the GPA to a 4.0 scale using the standard conversion method [GPA/Scale x 4.0].
- Must have completed at least two (2) semesters or three (3) quarters at the nominating institution.
- Athletic criteria for the award: Must have finished the indoor season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event, or in the top 48 in any championship relay event, for the most recent indoor season, certifiable by their place on the NCAA Division I descending order lists on TFRRS for Indoor Track and Field (including performances achieved outside the qualifying window during the indoor season).
