"Happy Social Distancing to everyone!
I'm coming to you from Woman's Hospital down the street from Rice where we welcomed Hadley Cain Savery! We now have two boys and our one girl. George is 5 and Scotty is 3.
I'm working at Avalon Investment & Advisory here in Houston and have since I "retired" from baseball. Believe it or not, I'm 34 years old now. There are just too many memories to mention with College World Series being impossible to describe. That being said, I vividly remember we went to Baton Rouge in 2005 starting six freshmen and beat LSU in their home regional. That remains one of my all time favorites. The night I pitched was arguably the best game I ever had under the circumstances. Attention Owl fans... if you have a DVD or even a video tape of this game, I need a copy!
Meeting so many of the baseball alumni has been great. We were excited about the turnout at the Golf Tournament last fall. Having people (re)connect is our biggest initiative. We want involvement and engagement first, and the rest will take care of itself. Obviously with the current baseball season having been canceled our efforts have been delayed, but only delayed.
What I would like to say to young student-athletes is to be well-rounded, play numerous sports and positions and have interests outside of the game. Baseball, or whatever your sport is, will finish some day but there's a lot of life left afterwards. Also, enjoy your teammates. The games/career will end, but the relationships go on and they are special and irreplaceable." — Joe Savery
