Ogwumike Repeats as C-USA Player of the Year

Fifth player in league history to become repeat winner
DALLAS – Rice senior guard Erica Ogwumike was voted the Conference USA Player of the Year for a second straight season, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Ogwumike became the fifth player in league history and first since Courtney Taylor (Houston, 2010-11) to repeat as C-USA Player of the Year.
A C-USA First Team All-Conference selection in three consecutive seasons, Ogwumike led the league in scoring and rebounding during conference play averaging 21.3 points and 11.6 rebounds while shooting 51.6 percent (fifth) from the field and 81.6 percent (seventh) from the free throw line.
Ogwumike was named C-USA Player of the Week a league-high four times and also became the first player in Rice history to earn USBWA National Player of the Week honors.
The Cypress, Texas native is currently one of just three players in NCAA Division I to amass 2,000 career points (2,076) and 1,000 career rebounds (1,100). On Monday, Ogwumike was also named to the C-USA All-Defensive Team for the second time in her career.
Ogwumike ranks first in school history in scoring average (17.7 ppg), second in rebounds per game (10.1 rpg) and is third in free throw percentage (81.4%). She also ranks fifth in total rebounds (905) and sixth in total points (1,597).
The Owls will open the C-USA Championship tournament in Frisco, Texas on Thursday at 11 a.m. against the winner of Marshall/Southern Miss in the quarterfinals round.
