MT&F: Four Owls Earn All-Conference Honors on Sunday

Owls place fifth as a team with 76.5 points
BIRMINGHAM, AL - Four different Owls earned Conference USA All-Conference honors as the Rice men's track & field team closed out the final day of the C-USA Indoor Championships on Sunday.
Sophomore Corbett Fong began the day by rallying to place second overall in the heptathlon with 4947 points, a new career-best. Fong finished second in the pole vault and third in the 1000m to earn a spot on the medal stand.
Graduate Lucas Ribeiro also placed second for the Owls, throwing 17.51m (57-05.50) in the shot put while teammate Elian Ahmar placed fifth (16.21m) in the same event.
Rice pushed across a pair of all-conference performers in the distance events with freshman Elliot Metcalf placing third (4:11.41) in the mile while sophomore Jason Bugg ran an incredible 800m to place third overall (1:53.14) as well.
Other Owls who contributed to Rice's total of 76.5 points on Sunday included Alex Topini in the mile (5th-4:12.04), Hociel Landa in the 3000m (5th-8:22.02), and Keegan O'Connor in the heptathlon (7th-4368 points).
