Series Notes
Ending With A Win at Home
Rice has closed out 11 of the last 12 home schedules with a win, sending the respective senior classes out with a win. The Owls won nine consecutive home finales from 2008-2016 (including a 28-23 win over UAB in 2010) before North Texas defeated Rice 30-14 on Senior Day in 2017. The Owls are 54-50-2 all-time in home finales. (Note, the Owls did not play a home game in their first season of play in 1912).
Having a Say
UAB can advance to the C-USA title game with a win, but a win by Rice would put UTSA into the C-USA Championship game next Friday and return a favor to the Roadrunners. In 2013 after defeating UAB in overtime in Birmingham on a Thursday night, the Owls turned their sights to a Saturday matchup between UTSA and North Texas. The Mean Green and Owls were tied atop the West Division, but UNT held the tiebreaker having defeated the Owls in Denton. UTSA held on to defeat North Texas-stopping the Mean Green at the 1-yard line-21-13 to put the Owls back in the driver's seat. They clinched the West the following weekend with a defeat of Tulane and then went on to blast Marshall and claim their first C-USA football title.
Decemberists
This will Owls mark the second time in school history the Owls have played a pair of regular season games in December. They also played twice in the 12th month in 1939.
