Senior center averaged 18 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3 blocks for week
DALLAS – Rice senior center Nancy Mulkey was selected the Conference USA Player of the Week after helping guide the Owls to a 2-0 start to the season, the conference office announced on Monday.
Mulkey, who was named the C-USA Co-Preseason Player of the Year prior to the season, averaged 18 points on 61 percent shooting along with 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks for the week.
In the season opener versus Houston Baptist, Mulkey recorded a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds in just 24 minutes of action. She also connected on her first career three-pointer in Rice's 83-54 win over the Huskies. Three days later, Mulkey posted 13 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked five shots in Rice's 66-54 road victory at Little Rock.
Mulkey's 11 made field goal and 13 rebounds against Houston Baptist were the most by a C-USA player this week, as were her five blocked shots against the Trojans.
The Owls, who have won seven straight games dating back to last season, are not slated to play again until Dec. 11 when they host crosstown foe Texas Southern at 2 p.m. from Tudor Fieldhouse.
